Care guide
How to wash and look after LINEVESSA porcelain and tea towels so the line stays crisp.
White porcelain and a black line are easy to live with. A little care keeps the line crisp and the glaze bright for years.
Cups, mugs and saucers
- Wash by hand in warm water with a little washing-up liquid and a soft sponge or cloth.
- Do not use scouring pads, steel wool or abrasive cleaners: they can dull the glaze and wear the line.
- Dry with a soft tea towel or let the pieces air-dry upside down.
- Tea stains: soak in warm water with a spoonful of baking soda for an hour, then wipe clean.
Teapots
- Warm the pot with hot water before you brew; this protects it from a sudden change in temperature and keeps the tea hot for longer.
- Rinse the pot after use and let the lid dry separately.
- Never put a teapot on a hob, stove or open flame.
Trays
- Wipe clean or wash by hand. Lift a loaded tray with both hands and keep it level.
- Trays are not oven-proof and are not cutting boards.
Microwave, dishwasher, oven
Please do not use LINEVESSA porcelain in the microwave or the oven. We recommend washing by hand. We will only describe a piece as dishwasher-safe or microwave-safe once we can show test results for it.
Temperature changes
Porcelain does not like sudden shocks. Avoid pouring boiling water into a piece straight from the fridge, and do not put a hot piece into cold water.
Chips and cracks
Do not use a piece that is chipped or cracked: it can break further and the edge can be sharp. If a piece arrives damaged, see Shipping — we replace it free of charge.
Tea towels
- Wash before first use. Machine wash at 40 °C with similar colours; do not bleach.
- Tumble dry on low or line dry. Iron on the reverse side so the print stays sharp.
- Keep tea towels away from open flames and hot plates, and do not use them as oven gloves.
